BURLESQUE WITH AN EDGE
Why choose when between being feminine & edgy in a burlesque inspired photoshoot when you can do both?
When my client she told me she wanted some Old Hollywood, Film Noir style photos while still maintaining her modern style, I was all in. I love when I can create stories with my clients while still keeping their essence at the forefront. It’s a make-over photoshoot, but it’s very important to me that you can still feel the person’s character come through. After all, this is sophisticated dress-up for grown-ups who want to take a moment to be playful in front the camera.
I started my photography career doing Film Noir style lighting, and as tricky as it is to get it right, it’s also the kind of lighting that is the most rewarding. The key is to make sure the model looks like they are lit by the Gods. That no matter how they move, they look like they were highlighted by an Angel.
The 2nd look we photographed was more about the Flash and Dazzle of a Vintage Pin-Up through a modern lens. It’s sweet, yet naughty, melding of past virtues and current vices. I believe that there’s so many different ways to be sexy, sometimes that means being playful, sometimes that means being serious.
The 3rd and final look we did was all about sex. I grew up on ‘90s music videos and having wet hair and a bubble bath is absolutely necessary. It’s amazing how just wetting the hair and changing facial expression that the images take on a completely new life. And yes, we still needed to accessorize with some sparkling body jewelry because after all, it was still a Burlesque shoot.
If you were to do a Burlesque inspired photoshoot, which style would you choose?
