Golden Cosplay
My favourite type of photoshoot client is the one that says “Here’s my crazy idea, I trust you to make it happen.” And that’s exactly what this golden painted goddess said to me when planning this creative cosplay shoot.
I’ve been photographing Mae for over 13 years now and each time we work together we try to out-do the last one. This shoot’s concept was Medusa meets Fairy meets gender-bend Thor and I was here for it. Mae is an incredible cosplayer that not only makes all her outfits herself but knows how to rock them at conventions and in front of the camera.
My goal was to make the images feel like paintings come to life and I think that’s exactly what we achieved! But I’ll tell you a little secret, I had major technical issues on the day of the shoot and half my lights refused to work. But thankfully, because Mae trusts me, I was able to adapt to what I had available and I think the photos turned out even better than we had planned. Of course it helps that when I work with an incredible beauty team (Steph Guida & Alexandra Apple), it’s easy to create these amazing images.
Body paint photoshoots have always been one of my favourite kind of photoshoots to do and I’ve been fortunate to work with some amazing artists over the years. Look out for a future post all about body paint shoots I’ve done over 15 years. Till then, enjoy more photos from this Magical day.
