9 Questions
about Boudoir Photoshoots
That you were too embarrassed to ask but really want to know
So you’ve always wanted to do a Boudoir photoshoot but you’ve just got these nagging questions that are holding you back. I totally get it. Revealing yourself to a photographer sounds so intimidating. But in actual fact it can be the most freeing and empowering thing you can do for yourself. For the last 16 years, I have seen every boudoir client walk away with a new found confidence and a new desire to conquer life.
Now you’re wondering: “How does she even know what I’m thinking.” Well I like to listen to women and over many years of girls nights out, I get asked a lot of interesting questions after the second cocktail. It’s time to bring these questions and answers into the daylight because the reality is, many women have the same questions but are too embarrassed to ask. So without further ado, here are the answers you’ve been looking for.
1. What if I look ugly in the photos?
My whole job, my entire purpose in my work, is to make you look beautiful. I want to highlight all the parts of you that you love and hide all the parts that you’re not comfortable with. The camera only adds 10lbs if you let it and I promise you, I won’t let it. Between lighting, posing, styling and a dash of photoshop, you will only look like your best self. And remember, I’ll only let you walk away with photos that you love.
2. I always get pimples on my butt, does that mean I should stay covered up?
Everyone gets pimples on their butt, it’s a totally normal thing caused by stress, hormones and too much sugar in your diet. I see it all the time. It shouldn’t stop you from showcasing your favourite asset. I always photoshop them out so don’t let a few small marks ruin your sexy dream for your photos.
This goes for stretch marks as well. If you love your tiger stripes, let’s celebrate them! But if you’re not feeling them, consider them gone for your final photos. I have seen every kind and placement of stretch marks, so don’t feel embarrassed showing them to me.
3. My boobs are uneven, can you work your magic on them?
Of course! Between lighting and posing and just a touch of that magic photoshop, we’ll get your breasts looking like identical twins. I always have some boob pads that we can always use to balance your cleavage out as well. Fun fact: your left breast tends to be larger because it’s next to your heart. There’s also a range of make-up tricks we can do to make your cleavage look fabulous in your photos. Don’t be held back from not having perfect breasts.
4. I really want to do a sexy shoot, but I don’t want my photos on the internet. Is it possible to make it super secret?
I can totally understand and value your privacy. We can do in person reveals, only do in studio prints and you can receive all your images on a crystal usb stick. If it’ll make you feel even more comfortable, both me and my beauty team can sign non disclosure agreements. There is absolutely no reasons your photos need to go on the internet. The majority of my clients prefer their images remain private, the level of privacy is up to you.
5. I’ve always wanted to do a kinky fetish photoshoot but where do I begin?
Oooooh, I love it! The first place to start is with a bit of research. Do you know what your kink is? Or are you just dying to try something new & risky? I have been doing sophisticated fetish art photography for 15 years and I can help you create the photoshoot of your dreams. I’ll guide you with outfit selections as well as where to find the right pieces or artists (rope tying, custom designers, etc) to make your idea a reality.
6. I’m single, who would I even show the photos to?
Who says you have to show them to anyone? A boudoir photoshoot is all about celebrating you for you. When you’re having a rough body image day, wouldn’t it be amazing to go onto your private gallery app that reminds you how hot you really are? A lot of my clients just share the photos with their close friend circle aka the best cheerleaders a woman can have.
That being said, if you were to find someone special, do you really want to send them an awkward sexy selfie where you’re trying to hide your messy room? Or would you rather send a beautiful piece of art that you’re damn proud of? I know what my answer would be. And if you don’t think they’re going to ask for a photo, you have not been in the dating world recently.
7. I have some scars that remind me of a past trauma, can they be removed?
Life happens and we have scars that mark our journey. It’s a totally normal part of life and I don’t think there should be any shame about having them. But when you don’t want the reminder and you want to leave these hard experiences in the past – I totally support that decision. There is no charge to remove any requested scar from your images.
We also tend to collect some not so great tattoos along the way. Have no fear, they can be removed as well.
8. I don’t think I’m sexy, how can I look sexy in photos?
What makes you think you’re not sexy? Some ridiculous media standard? Or did someone try to make you feel less than who are? This idea that sexy has to look or act a specific way is bullsh*t. Everyone has a different version of sexy for themselves and I don’t believe it needs to fall in any specific box.
So my answer is easy: you will look sexy because you feel sexy. And even if you show up for your photoshoot and you’re still not 100% sure, I promise you I have all the tricks of the trade to bring it out in you. From the right music, the right pose, the right beauty and styling, I’ve never had someone not get into the groove. When you feel it, the camera sees it and everyone has it in them. Point finale.
9. Do only models book boudoir photoshoots with you? Everyone looks so perfect.
I get really excited working with first timers because I get to introduce them to a new world and create a life changing experience for them. It’s all about the right lighting, the right beauty team, the right lighting, the right pose and the right moment to take the photo. It’s amazing the miracles we make behind the scenes.
And even though you might not realize it to look at, the average age of the women in my portfolio is 40 and many are sized 14 plus. From nurses to scientists to ceos to stay at home moms, these beauties have so many amazing things they want to celebrate in their lives besides just being amazing and beautiful.
I once was asked, “Do you ever photograph unattractive people?” and I didn’t know how to respond. I was at a complete loss of words, which for me, is rare. I don’t believe there is such a thing as “unattractive people” I think if you have a good heart and a beautiful soul, that’s all I see when I look at you and that’s exactly what I capture with my camera.
I hope after reading these answers, that you have a new found confidence to do your very own boudoir photoshoot. Because no matter what is going on in your life, you deserve to be celebrated.
And if you have any additional questions, I hope you will feel comfortable enough to share them with me.
